Frequently Asked Questions

Will my child cry?

The short answer is... maybe. Some children do cry for the first few lessons. We always encourage parents to sit poolside during the lesson and provide encouraging words! Your Instructor will do their best to help you better know what we are looking for and what we are doing for the day so that you can play an active role in your child's lessons. While some children may cry at first, we always see that with competence comes confidence and with confidence comes safety and fun!

What if my child misses a day/week?

Since you pay for the week, and not for the day, there are no refunds for missed lessons. If you know that your child will miss 5+ lessons in a particular session, I recommend scheduling lessons during another session in which you can be present each week.

Will I need to get in the water?

Parents will only be asked to get in the water when it is deemed appropriate by the instructor. For baby floaters, this will likely be once during the lessons and then again last week of lessons. For swimmers, this may be as often as every Friday or only 1 or 2x during the entire session. We will always discuss this before hand so that you can plan accordingly.

My child is over 6, can you teach them?

Yes! ISR is geared for children 6 months to 6 years old, however, children older than that can be successfully taught as well. Speak with one of our Instructors to determine your child's current skill level and expectations. From there we can build a game plan that best suits your child!

Do you offer lessons after work?

We understand that lessons during typical business hours can be difficult for some schedules. For this reason, we offer evening lessons typically as late at 7:00pm throughout the year at our home pool in Springtown. However, since we do travel sessions- our sessions away from home have whatever hours we are able to get with the host pool/our schedules.

Can you come to me for lessons?

Absolutely! To set up a travel session we typically like to have around 20+ students. We are happy to help advertise, reach out to an instructor to try to set something up!

Are you associated with any other survival swim programs in the area?

No, we are not. ISR stands behind its over 50 years of research and development with a team of over 1,000 Instructors world-wide. While there are numerous programs that claim to "teach ISR skills" but only Certified ISR Instructors have been through the exclusive, in depth  training required to become a Certified ISR Instructor. There are a few ISR instructors in our area though- Valerie Ranspot, Morgan Cross, Haley Robbins, Michael Garramone and Cassandra Garramone.

What if my child doesn't finish?

Your child will successfully learn self rescue skills! At the end of our initial lesson set, your child absolutely will have the skills needed to self rescue. The average time it takes for a child to acquire these skills is 6 weeks however because every child is different, some children can finish in as little as 4 weeks and some can take a little longer finishing up at 8 weeks. Each child is different and we focus on that child's individual needs and learning styles versus a previously set curriculum for each day.
